Family Photoshoot for Survivors of Domestic Violence

December 2020  Control Alt Delete delighted in their first annual Holiday Hero program to make the holidays a bit brighter for our clients.

We were able to “adopt” 9 survivor families for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas.
Our dedicated volunteers provided Thanksgiving meals complete with a turkey delivered to their doors.
In addition, some volunteers delivered Christmas, including a special delivery by our founder.
There was a last minute wish list for a mama and her little girl, who had nothing but the clothing they had on as they fled.  The little girl even slept in the moms t-shirt since she did not have pajamas.  Sharing the light of the season with this community makes our mission ever more clear.   Our community came together and provided all necessities and essentials as well as wrapped gifts for both!

Another wish list item was a family photoshoot which became an exciting and memorable event!

For this special event, we include a photoshoot to capture photos of the new beginnings for several families.  We captured their strength and resilience, while showcasing the new family dynamic without the abuser in the picture….literally!
As the families waited for their turn for photographs, they spoke with each other about orders of protection, how much of a sentence their abuser got, and how often he has broken the restraining order demonstrating the continued need to evolve our legal system to protect those most at risk.
Our clients spoke about loneliness and self doubt and seemed to be greatly comforted by the fact each was feeling similar emotions.  The kids made quick friends as the moms exchanged phone numbers.  It was beautifully healing!

Volunteers donated

– Stockings filled with goodies for each mom and kids
– Handmade blankets
– A brand new jacket
– Ornaments with the kid’s names
Hair was done beforehand by D’Ambrosio’s Hair Design in Scottsdale with the artists each donating their own time during this uncertain time.
Volunteers that helped at the event included, board members Andrea and Martina, Tammy, Peter and Photographer – Nichole Yazzie.

Control Alt Delete removes the barriers that often keep people in unsafe domestic violence environments.  We bridge the gap in services and help in that immediate time of need providing services such as gas gift cards, cab rides, bus tickets, hotel rooms and new locks and security measures for homes where Survivors will be staying.

Thank you blog contributor Allison Barnett
Thank you Photographer Nichole Yazzie for capturing this strength, beauty and resilience!
