A Journey of Hope: Delivering a Lifeline to a Veteran Survivor
At Control Alt Delete, our mission is to provide Survivors of domestic abuse with the resources they need to escape dangerous situations. While we regularly assist with travel expenses and logistics, receiving a vehicle donation is a rare but deeply impactful gift. Recently, our founder, Laura, and her sister, Charlotte, embarked on an incredible journey to deliver a donated car to a Veteran Survivor who desperately needed a means of escape.
For many Survivors, driving is the only viable escape option. Some have pets and cannot fly or take a bus. Others may have unique safety concerns that make other transportation methods impossible. In these situations, a reliable vehicle can mean the difference between entrapment and freedom which can be the difference between life or death.
When we received this generous car donation, we knew it had to go to someone whose life would be transformed by it. Laura and Charlotte set out on a 16-hour drive to hand-deliver the car to its new owner—a Veteran Survivor who had been waiting for a safe way out with their safe space being Arizona.
The journey was not without challenges. In the middle of their drive, they found themselves in the midst of a horrific automobile accident that unfolded all around them. Miraculously, they and the donated car emerged unscathed, a moment that felt nothing short of divine intervention. The experience was a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the urgency of our mission.
After hours on the road, they finally arrived, handing over the keys to someone who now had the power to move forward—literally and figuratively. The Veteran Survivor’s relief and gratitude were overwhelming. This car was more than just transportation; it was a ticket to safety, independence, and a fresh start.
