Understanding the Difference between Crisis Response, Supportive, Wrap-Around, and Continual Care for Survivors of Domestic Violence
Escaping domestic violence is a monumental step for any Survivor, marking the beginning of a challenging yet empowering journey towards safety and healing. At Control Alt Delete, we specialize in providing immediate crisis response during this critical phase, ensuring that Survivors can escape their abusive environments safely. However, the journey doesn’t end there. After the initial escape, other agencies and resources step in to provide supportive, wrap-around, and continual care tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
Immediate Crisis Response: Lifeline During the Escape
At Control Alt Delete, our mission centers on delivering immediate crisis response to Survivors actively escaping domestic violence. We recognize that this moment is often fraught with danger, fear, and uncertainty. Our priority is to offer swift, decisive support to ensure the safety of those reaching out for help. Here’s how we make a difference in those critical moments:
- 2 Night Hotel Stay: Up to a 2 night hotel stay while safety precautions are put into place or while waiting for shelter placement.
- Emergency Transportation: We coordinate safe transportation to quickly move Survivors out of harm’s way, whether it’s to a shelter, a friend’s house, or another secure location.
- Safety Items: When a Survivor is staying in their home there is often a need to rekey locks, provide security camera systems and other personal safety items.
- Essential Resources: We provide emergency supplies such as food, clothing, and hygiene products to meet immediate needs and stabilize Survivors in the short term.
If you or someone you know needs to escape their abuser, the police, the prosecutor’s office, or a victim advocate can submit a referral for services from Control Alt Delete. We are here to provide the immediate assistance required to facilitate a safe and effective escape.
Transition to Supportive, Wrap-Around, and Continual Care
Once the immediate crisis has been managed and the Survivor is in a safe location, other specialized agencies and organizations take over to provide the ongoing support necessary for long-term recovery and empowerment. These services include:
Supportive Care: Building a Foundation of Trust and Safety
Supportive care is the next step after the crisis has been addressed, focusing on creating a stable and secure environment for Survivors. This includes:
- Counseling and Mental Health Services: Access to trauma-informed therapy and counseling helps Survivors process their experiences and begin their emotional healing journey.
- Legal Assistance: Navigating the legal system can be daunting. Legal advocates from various organizations provide guidance and support in securing restraining orders, custody arrangements, and other legal protections.
Wrap-Around Care: Comprehensive and Personalized Support
Wrap-around care offers a holistic, personalized support system that addresses the myriad needs of Survivors. This comprehensive approach includes:
- Housing and Financial Support: Stable housing and financial independence are crucial for long-term safety. Agencies assist Survivors in finding safe, affordable housing and offer financial planning resources to help them regain control over their lives.
- Employment and Education Services: Empowering Survivors with the skills and opportunities to achieve economic independence is key. Job training, resume building, and educational resources are provided to support their career goals.
Continual Care: Sustaining Long-Term Healing and Empowerment
Healing from domestic violence is not a linear process, and the need for support extends far beyond the initial escape. Continual care ensures that Survivors have access to ongoing resources and community connections that foster long-term empowerment and well-being. This includes:
- Support Groups: Peer support groups offer a safe space for Survivors to share their experiences, build connections, and find strength in solidarity.
- Ongoing Counseling and Therapy: Continued access to mental health services helps Survivors navigate the complexities of their healing journey and maintain emotional well-being.
- Community Integration: Helping Survivors reintegrate into their communities through social activities, volunteer opportunities, and community engagement fosters a sense of belonging and purpose.
