Thank You to the Sundt Foundation for Helping Save Lives Through Safe Lock Changes
Control Alt Delete is honored to thank the Sundt Foundation for their generous support. Their grant will directly fund lock changes for Survivors escaping domestic violence who are in high lethality risk situations—a critical safety measure that can mean the difference between life and death.
Why Lock Changes Matter
For many Survivors, the moment they leave an abuser is the most dangerous time. Leave meaning end the relationship or exit the situation. Research consistently shows that the risk of serious harm or homicide increases dramatically when an abuser feels they are losing power or control. In high lethality cases—where there are clear indicators such as threats to kill, the presence of weapons, escalating violence, or stalking behaviors—every layer of security becomes vital.
One of the most overlooked yet essential protections is something simple: changing the locks.
The Reality Survivors Face
Most Survivors leaving an abusive partner do so under extreme stress, often with little more than the belongings they can carry. Many abusers still have keys to the home—keys that allow them to walk right in at any time. For a Survivor, especially one with a high lethality score, an unchanged lock is an open door to danger.
A new lock:

Stops an abuser from entering the home uninvited

Prevents retaliation when the abuser realizes they can no longer access the Survivor

Gives the Survivor back control of their environment

Reduces the chance they will return to the abuser out of fear or necessity

Restores a sense of safety and dignity during an incredibly traumatic time
These lock changes provide immediate, concrete protection—one of the most effective barriers between a Survivor and further harm.
A Grant That Directly Protects Lives
Thanks to the Sundt Foundation’s support, Control Alt Delete will be able to respond quickly when an advocate reaches out on behalf of a Survivor whose life has been threatened. When danger is high, hesitation isn’t an option. This grant ensures we can act fast, pay for professional lock changes, and give Survivors the security they need in the very place they should feel safest—their home.
