How to Get Assistance from Control Alt Delete

When someone is living in an active domestic violence situation, every minute matters. Escaping isn’t always as simple as walking out the door. Often, there is one barrier standing between a Survivor and safety.

That is where Control Alt Delete comes in.

What Does Control Alt Delete Do?

Control Alt Delete provides one-time emergency assistance to help Survivors of domestic violence safely escape an active abusive situation. Our mission is simple: remove the barrier that is keeping a Survivor trapped with their abuser.

We are a crisis response organization—not a long-term service provider, continual care, wrap around service provider. Instead, we focus on the immediate needs that make an escape possible.

Depending on the situation, assistance may include:

  • Emergency transportation
  • Bus tickets to safety
  • Fuel assistance
  • Temporary hotel stays
  • First meals after escaping
  • Basic necessities
  • Security measures
  • Other immediate, one-time assistance directly related to escaping

Every request is unique because every Survivor’s situation is unique. Our goal is to eliminate the obstacle preventing them from reaching safety.

The First Step Is a Referral

One of the most important things to understand is that Control Alt Delete accepts referrals only.

*A Survivor cannot submit their own request for assistance.*

Instead, an advocate must submit the referral on the Survivor’s behalf. This allows us to verify the situation, coordinate services safely, and provide assistance as quickly as possible.

If you are a Survivor, ask your advocate to submit the referral for assistance.

Who Can Be an Advocate?

If you do not already have an advocate, you can obtain one through organizations already helping Survivors of domestic violence, including:

  • Your local police department
  • The prosecutor’s office
  • A Family Advocacy Center
  • A domestic violence shelter or agency
  • Other victim service organizations

These professionals work with Survivors every day and understand the referral process.

How Are Referrals Submitted?

To ensure the fastest response, referrals must be submitted in writing by an advocate.

Control Alt Delete processes referrals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year when they are submitted correctly by email or through the Control Alt Delete online referral form.

Because domestic violence is a high-risk crime, every referral must contain enough information for our team to accurately identify the Survivor, understand the circumstances, and determine exactly what assistance is needed to facilitate an escape.

Information Advocates Must Include

To avoid delays, advocates should provide as much information as possible in the initial referral. At a minimum, every referral should include:

  • The Survivor’s full legal name, including their middle name
  • Any alias names the Survivor has used
  • The Survivor’s date of birth
  • A brief narrative explaining why services are needed
  • The exact assistance needed to allow the Survivor to escape

The request for assistance must be specific—not general.

For example, rather than requesting “transportation,” the referral should state:

  • Bus tickets from Phoenix, Arizona to Denver, Colorado
  • Departure date
  • Number of travelers
  • Any children traveling with the Survivor
  • If they are planning on leaving the state the correct legal documentation that the Survivor has the legal authority to remove the children from the state.
  • Any additional information necessary to coordinate the escape safely

The more complete the referral, the faster Control Alt Delete can evaluate the request.

Additional Documentation May Be Required

Every referral is reviewed individually.

Control Alt Delete will never approve assistance without the required referral information. If essential information is missing, the referral cannot be processed until it has been provided.

Depending on the circumstances, additional documentation may also be required before assistance can be approved. This may include:

  • Police reports
  • Orders of Protection
  • Custody orders
  • Other documentation relevant to the Survivor’s situation

These documents help verify circumstances, protect the integrity of the referral process, and ensure that limited emergency resources are used appropriately.

Speed Matters

Domestic violence situations can change in an instant.

When an advocate submits a complete referral with all of the required information, an escape can often be facilitated within minutes.

Incomplete referrals require additional follow-up, which can delay life-saving assistance. Taking the time to submit a complete referral helps ensure that Control Alt Delete can respond as quickly as possible.

Our volunteer team monitors referrals around the clock so that qualifying emergency requests can be addressed whenever they are received.

Our Mission Is Immediate Safety

Control Alt Delete exists to help Survivors overcome the practical barriers that often keep them trapped in dangerous situations.

Sometimes that barrier is transportation.

Sometimes it’s a lack of gas money.

Sometimes it’s food for the first days after escaping.

Sometimes it’s a safe place to sleep.

Sometimes it’s another immediate need that is preventing a Survivor from reaching safety.

Whatever the barrier may be, our focus is on providing one-time assistance that makes an immediate escape possible.

If You Need Help

If you are experiencing domestic violence, know that you do not have to navigate the process alone.

Connect with a victim advocate through your local police department, prosecutor’s office, Family Advocacy Center, domestic violence agency, or another victim service organization. Your advocate can assess your situation, help you develop a safety plan, and submit a written referral to Control Alt Delete if one-time emergency assistance is needed to remove the barrier preventing your escape.

Every successful escape begins with one safe step—and for assistance from Control Alt Delete, that first step is having your advocate submit a complete written referral.

Control Alt Delete removes the barriers that keep people in unsafe and abusive situations by providing one time assistance at the most vulnerable and crucial times as Survivors are actually escaping. We can’t do it without you, our supporters.
